Located in Zaiya, Higashino, Takehara City, it was named Nisshoyama and was founded in Takehara Nishino during the Kenkyu era (1190-1199) as Ouchiyama Chozenan, a Tendai sect. In 1514, Genchi changed the name to Shinshu and named it Chozenji. It is said that it was later moved to its current location in 1896 due to a fire. Here, the flag of the Ishiyama Battle Army and the list of those killed in battle at Fort Amagasaki during the Battle of Ishiyama are preserved. This flag was used during the ``Battle of Ishiyama'' (1570-1580), a battle between Oda Nobunaga and his followers at Honganji Temple.At the request of the third chief priest Enzai, his followers, mainly members of the Fujiwara clan, organized Kihata-gumi, and along with the Mori army, they formed the Kihata-gumi. This is the flag that was hung over the bow of the ship when it set out to support Ishiyama. It is 88cm long and 66cm wide, and has the inscription ``Advancer Ojo Gokuraku, Retirement Mugen Jigoku'' written on the pale yellow hand-woven cotton. The law list reads ``Kihatagumi Akien Saimondo no Uchi,'' and it lists 19 people who died in battle at Amagasaki Fort in 1577.

Chozenji Temple has a beautiful garden facing the temple. The design of this garden is based on the motif of the heart. The weeping cherry blossoms are beautiful in spring, and Hiroshima's mild climate is another of its charms. The dynamic works of local calligraphers are drawn on the folding screen in the storeroom, making it a sight to behold. Copying sutras surrounded by those folding screens is something special.

Chozenji's vegetarian cuisine uses seasonal local vegetables. The items made by the members of the Women's Association are all elegant and beautiful. The dishes are also lacquered and served on a raised table, making it a special dish that you cannot normally enjoy. It is also very popular among customers from overseas.
