Ogasawara adventure tour where the memories of the Chichijima On a journey to learn the history of war.

Recently I was researching Diving and Sea kayak that can be experienced at Chichijima in the Tokyo and Ogasawara islands. There is also Hahajima (digression) I learned that Chichijima has a lot of debris such as military facilities during the Pacific War. Iwo Jima, about 280 km south of Chichijima, is famous for the fierce ground battle between the Japanese and US forces, but it is currently the only transportation for the general public to go. There is no choice but to participate in a tour (held several times at Year) that will land on the "Ogasawara Maru".

It did not become a fierce battlefield like Iwo Jima, but it can be imagined that the "Chichijima Fortress" was built on Chichijima and it looked very tough. Compared to Iwo Jima, Chichijima can be visited at any time, and I was very interested in the fact that there is a tour where you can explain the traces of the war, so I will introduce it. Some protected areas require a guide to enter, so don't go personally and take these tours.

I have lunch for about 6 hours from morning to afternoon, but I think that it is slightly expensive. It is a plan that many people should experience as much as possible, so I wish it was a bit cheaper.

Before taking the tour, I researched what I wanted to go and see.

・ The site of the Navy Communications Corps headquarters in Mt. Yoake
The remains of the concrete that was partially collapsed by the air raid remain, demonstrating the misery of the war. There are still some concrete buildings other than the headquarters of the communication corps, and it seems that you can see tableware with the mark of the Imperial Japanese Army in the kitchen. Although the circular pedestal was built for the turret, the cannon was never installed. There is also an underground pit with a total length of about 150m nearby. The entrance has a complicated structure to prevent flamethrowers. It seems that there are many traces of dynamite blasting in the underground pit. I used to go to a large air raid shelter in Okinawa, but I still remember the unique air inside.
・ Hinko Maru
The Hamae Maru, abandoned on the Sakaiura coast, is a cargo ship stranded by US military air raids and torpedoes. I don't really understand it in the photo, but when I actually see it, I think I can feel it in various ways.
·Power plant
It is said that the underground pit, which was an important communication facility, has four doors.
・ 12 cm high angle gun
It is an underground pit made of concrete and is believed to have been built in preparation for the landing of the US military. You can see the barrel pointed from the moat toward the sea.
・ Type 88 7 cm field warfare gun
This is also left in almost perfect shape in a concrete underground pit. The year of manufacture is 1945. The anti-aircraft gun was aimed at the west coast of the island and was a key point of defense for Chichijima.
・ Other
There are many other things you'll want to see, such as a concrete defensive position called a pillbox and the wreckage of a minecart track to carry supplies.

Seventy years have passed since the end of the war, and the chances of hearing from those who have experienced the war are decreasing. Under such circumstances, there is no doubt that a tour of the battlefields with a guide with specialized knowledge will be a very valuable experience. I want to know more about the sad history that has built this peace now, so I definitely want to participate when I go to Chichijima.
