The "Sekida Mountains" where the Shinetsu Trail extends is Satoyama. Do you know about Shinetsu-Trail , north part of Nagano prefecture ?The Sekida Mountain ridges are one of the heaviest snowfall areas in the world. It is along the ridgeline of a forested area at an altitude of about1,000m.From early June to November you are able to walk the trail, as all the snow has melted.In early summer, the trail is beautiful with fresh green leaves and in late autumn as the days get colder, the leaves turn stunning colors.Currently, the trail has 6 Individual sections each between 8~12km. It takes approximately 6~7 hours to hike one section.Sections 1~6 total about 80km. Later this year, 4 new sections (7~10) will be opened making the trail 110km from start to finish.I plan to hike the entire trail, sections 1~10 before the first snow fall.Reasonable accommodation is available if you would like to stay overnight, and I can help with those arrangements if needed, so please feel free to ask.This is a serious hike, so please be certain of your fitness, capability, a nd equipment.If you are interested, or have any questions at all about anything, do not hesitate to contact me directly.

This is an E-BIKE cycling tour by Shinano Discovery. You will enjoy an exhilarating ride on a state-of-the-art electric-assist MTB through the traditional rural landscapes of Lake Nojiri, Kurohime Highlands, and the old Hokkoku Kaido road, connecting farm roads, forest roads, and roads that have been used by villagers for a long time! This is a one-day cycling tour that will allow you to fully experience the nature, history, and culture of Myoko-Togakushi Renzan National Park, including the view of the Hokushin Five Mountains that spreads out before your eyes, the history of Lake Nojiri and the excavation of Naumann's elephant fossils, and a course that follows an irrigation channel that was built 350 years ago. There are also plenty of adventure elements, such as downhill on unpaved roads! This tour is full of highlights, with secret old road rides and commentary that only a local guide can provide. - Schedule for the day - 10:00 Meet at Kurohime Station Meet at Kurohime Station. After a brief explanation of the tour, we will take a lesson on how to ride an E-MTB. 10:30 The tour starts. Enjoy the spectacular view of the five mountains of Hokushin. Enjoy an adventure ride along the unpaved irrigation canal to Torii River, a clear stream flowing from Togakushi. 11:30 Follow the irrigation canals of the Edo period and the Denkuro irrigation canal, which was built 350 years ago on the Hokkoku Kaido road. We will explore the history of Nojiri-juku, which once flourished as a post town on the Hokkoku Kaido road, the irrigation canals of the Edo period, and hydroelectric power generation, as well as the history of the water surrounding Lake Nojiri and the lives of the people. 12:50 Lake Nojiri If the weather is good, have lunch at an open-terrace cafe or in a park by the lake. After you finish eating, go on a cycling tour around Lake Nojiri National Park. At the shrine in Sugakawa village on the east side of the lake, there is a giant cedar tree that is nearly 1,000 years old! 14:30 Time-slip experience in a tunnel built in the Meiji era In the Togusa community in Shinanomachi, there is an old tunnel built over 130 years ago. Explore the old Togusa tunnel, where steam locomotives once passed, by bicycle! 15:30 Tour ends The tour ends at the meeting point.
