Noshiro City in Akita Prefecture is located at the mouth of the Yoneshiro River. It has a convenient port for transporting felled Akita cedar, and sawn lumber is exported both domestically and internationally, earning it the nickname "the No. 1 wooden city in the Orient." Even today, the city is home to many wood-related businesses. You'll assemble wooden "Kumiko" pieces from scratch.
