Why not try making "Kumiko" in Noshiro, the city of wood? Noshiro City, Akita Prefecture, is a town at the mouth of the Yoneshiro River, and has a convenient port for transporting felled Akita cedar. Lumber is exported domestically and overseas, and it was called "the No. 1 city of wood in the Orient". Even now, there are many wood-related companies in the city. We will assemble wooden "Kumiko parts" from scratch. There is some fine work, but the work of assembling them together is addictive! A guide will take you on a stroll through Kimimachizaka Prefectural Natural Park, a sacred place for lovers. At Koibumi Shrine in the park, you can make a wish on a heart-shaped votive plaque, or post a postcard with your feelings written on it to receive a heart postmark. After your stroll, enjoy a kumiko craft experience that will allow you to experience the history and techniques of Noshiro City, which once flourished through the processing of Akita cedar wood. You can take your kumiko home as a strap or pendant.
