Noshiro City in Akita Prefecture is a city at the mouth of the Yoneshiro River, and has a port that is convenient for transporting felled Akita cedar. Lumber is exported domestically and overseas, and it has been called "the No. 1 wooden city in the Orient". Even today, there are many wood-related companies in the city. You will assemble wooden "Kumiko parts" from scratch. There is some fine work, but the work of assembling them together is addictive! The finishing process using a file allows you to feel the pleasant scent of wood. *Wood material: Japanese cypress You can choose from two types of "strap" with a diameter of about 5.6 cm and "coaster" with a diameter of about 10 cm (additional 500 yen). (If you would like a coaster, please select "Change to coaster" as an option.) *Includes a souvenir of mineral water (500ml plastic bottle) collected from the World Heritage Site "Shirakami-Sanchi" and Noshiro's famous sweets. [About the experience venue] If the experience is held at a facility in the city, it will be on foot (about 5 minutes) or inside the tourist information office.
The kumiko parts are assembled from scratch to create a shape. Kumiko crafts are assembled by hand by craftsmen, and each shape (pattern) of kumiko crafts has a meaning.
Choose the length of string you like and wear it on your bag or as a necklace, however you like!
Of course, you can buy some for yourself, but why not also buy some handmade Kumiko as a souvenir?
