Noshiro City in Akita Prefecture is located at the mouth of the Yoneshiro River. It has a convenient port for transporting felled Akita cedar, and sawn lumber is exported both domestically and internationally, earning it the nickname "the No. 1 wooden city in the Orient." Even today, the city is home to many wood-related businesses. You'll assemble wooden "Kumiko" pieces from scratch. Although it involves some delicate work, the process of assembling the pieces together is addictive! You can enjoy the pleasant aroma of wood as you finish the work using sandpaper. *Wood material: Japanese cypress. You can choose from two types of crafts: a strap measuring approximately 5.6cm in diameter or a coaster measuring approximately 10cm (additional 500 yen). (If you would like a coaster, please select the option to "Change to Coaster"). *Includes a souvenir of mineral water (500ml plastic bottle) sourced from the Shirakami-Sanchi World Heritage Site and a specialty Noshiro confectionery. [About the experience location] If the experience is held at a facility within the city, it will be a 5-minute walk away or within the tourist information office.

Assembling the parts to create Kumiko crafts

The kumiko parts are assembled from scratch to create a shape. Kumiko crafts are assembled by hand by craftsmen, and each shape (pattern) of kumiko crafts has a meaning.

You can take your "Kumiko" home with you on the day.

Choose the length of string you like and wear it on your bag or as a necklace, however you like!

Also recommended as a souvenir!

Of course, you can buy some for yourself, but why not also buy some handmade Kumiko as a souvenir?
