The Meiji era playhouse Korakukan is still active and performing live (popular theater and other) for over 115 years. The 2025 performances are as follows: April 23rd to July 27th: "Shitamachi Kabuki Gumi" - Leader Mimine Tooru -> Star actor Shingetsu Kaito -> Star actor Hitomi Hiroshi (Star actor Subaru Toma) - They will perform in rotation for about one month each time. The Meiji-era playhouse "Korakukan" was built in 1910 as a welfare facility for the Kosaka Mine employees. The exterior of the building is Western-style, while the interior is purely Japanese-style. Its most distinctive feature is its blend of Japanese and Western styles, which is rare for a playhouse. Staff dressed in black costumes will guide you through the Korakukan facility. Enjoy a truly eye-opening look behind the scenes of a living playhouse!

Even beginners can experience the "Date Inzai-ryu" archery that has been passed down since the time of Date Masamune! The Date clan, based in Sendai, practiced a traditional archery style called "Hiki-ryu Inzai-ha". This style emphasizes effectiveness on the battlefield over ceremonial beauty. In particular, it employs shooting techniques that utilize mobility, single or group tactics, and powerful shots that can penetrate armor. In this archery experience, you will travel back in time to feudal Japan and train like a Date clan soldier. After hearing about the history and battle tactics of the time, you will be taught how to safely shoot an arrow in a modern martial arts center. This experience will be led by Ken Kurosu, representative of the "Date Inzai Archery Research Association," which also performs at the Sendai Aoba Festival.

About Daito Aiki Jiu-Jitsu Daito Aiki Jiu-Jitsu. This martial art is a palace-style self-defense technique that was originally conveyed only to the senior samurai of the Aizu clan. Until the Meiji era, martial arts was a secret to the public, but it became known to the public by Takeda Sokaku, a native of Aizu. Moving zazen "I can't be slashed. I can't be beaten. I can't be kicked. I can't be kicked." Mr. Komichi Horikawa, a high school brother of Takeda Sokaku, positions martial arts in this way. The goal is not to defeat the opponent, as in the case of match-style martial arts and martial arts, but to enhance one's spirituality. This is the ideal, peaceful philosophy of martial arts. Specializing in zazen teaching, I realized that the ignorance of this martial art was very close to the point of Zen enlightenment.
