Held from spring to autumn Fishing for Japanese eels in the brackish waters of rivers Part 1: 8:00-10:30 Part 2: 10:30-13:00 Part 3: 13:30-16:00 Part 4: 16:00-18:30 This is a tour to fish for eels at the mouths of rivers that run through Tokyo. Japanese eels are born in the western waters of the Mariana Islands. They grow in rivers not only in Japan but also in East Asia, including China, Taiwan, and the Korean Peninsula, and are known to return to the Mariana Islands to spawn. Japanese eels (Anguilla japonica), which belong to the Anguilla genus of the eel family, are widely distributed in East Asia, including Japan, China, Taiwan, and Korea. In Japan, they mainly live south of Honshu, but there have been cases of them being caught in Hokkaido. Rental tackle, fishing rod, and equipment are included, so you can participate empty-handed. Two patterns of fishing are done: casting fishing and plastic bottle tackle fishing, using earthworms as bait. While waiting for the tackle, you can fish for goby at your feet. The main target is eels, but sometimes you can catch gobies, crabs, and seigo. The tour lasts about 3 hours. Please bring a headlamp, a handy light, and drinks. *If you want to take something home, please bring an aeration device (battery-powered bubbler) to prevent oxygen deficiency, a plastic case or fishing bucket to prevent escape, and a cooler box. By train: 15 minutes walk from JR Joban Line or Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line By car: Please use a nearby parking lot. Meeting place: Near the Seven-Eleven Katsushika Kosuge 1-chome store. We will send you a map in advance, so please walk to the point. Migration of Japanese eels Japanese eels spawn in the summer in the waters west of the Mariana Islands in the Pacific Ocean. After hatching, they become larvae that look like willow leaves, called leptocephalus. They are carried by the glass eel current and reach East Asia in about six months, when they transform into long, cylindrical glass eels and enter rivers on the high tide. After that, their transparent bodies start to take on color and they are called yellow eels. During the yellow eel stage, the eels grow large and eat a variety of food, including shrimp, crabs, small fish and insects. Japanese eels spend their growth period in a wide range of environments, from coastal areas to the upper reaches of rivers, including not only freshwater but also brackish and marine areas. After several to a dozen years, when they reach a size of over 40 cm for males and over 50 cm for females, they begin to mature and are called silver eels. From autumn to winter, silver eels leave the rivers and coastal areas that they are accustomed to living in and travel to spawning grounds. It takes about six months to reach the spawning grounds in the Marianas, where they spawn and then end their lives.

Learn about the history of modernization. [Special tour of the Red Brick Sake Brewery] You can tour the Red Brick Sake Brewery and feel the depth of its history. Among them is the ``Hyakunen Sake Brewery Project,'' a project that aims to age sake for decades. The Red Brick Sake Brewery in Oji, Tokyo, was built in 1904 as part of the newly established Sake Brewing Research Institute, a facility where cutting-edge technology was used to support the modernization and evolution of sake production. It is the only place in Japan where technical development and training related to sake production have been held for 120 years, and it is considered the ``sacred place for sake brewing'' because people who aspire to become sake brewers learned here. After that, the research institute was moved outside of Tokyo, but the symbolic red brick sake brewery remained and was designated as a national cultural property in 2014. Since it is not normally open to the public, it remains a hidden gem of Tokyo. [Limited to this tour! Tasting of specially made new sake with commentary from the toji] (*) A toji is a person in charge of sake brewing at a sake brewery. A person with the qualifications of Touji and Kikisakeshi (Japanese sake sommelier) will introduce you to the best sake. This is a tour that allows you to get a feel for Yokohama and make it a memorable trip, rather than visiting each famous spot quickly. At the time of Perry's arrival, Yokohama was a small, semi-fishing, semi-farming town of 100 households, but it has developed as a gateway to foreign countries and is now the largest city in Japan. The Minato Mirai area continues to evolve as a tourist destination, including the Red Brick Warehouse, Zou-no-hana Park, Hammerhead, and Air Cabin. As for food, there are many products that originated in Yokohama, such as bread, gyu-nabe, ice cream, and Neapolitan, and there are many shops that have been in business for over 100 years. Above all, the world's largest Chinatown highlights Yokohama's unique character. Yamashita Park, Nihon Odori, and Minato Mirai have also become filming locations for TV and movies. Therefore, people of all generations feel some kind of familiarity with Yokohama.

We will mainly visit filming locations for TV dramas. Please enjoy the scenery and gourmet food of Yokohama! When walking around Yokohama, I often come across scenery that makes me want to take pictures. Even though I have lived in Yokohama for 30 years, I still feel that way. The scenery not only changes depending on the season, but also during the day under the piercing blue sky, and the scenery at sunset changing from yellow to orange to deep blue. New buildings are being built one after another, while some buildings reminiscent of the Meiji era remain. Yokohama has many spots that are perfect as the backdrop for dramas and movies with various themes. Get closer to the drama by visiting the filming locations of recent TV dramas. I also think it's fun to use your imagination and think about how you might use this scenery as the background for a drama like this. Since it is the place where bread, ice cream, tonkatsu, and Neapolitan were first introduced to Japan, you can enjoy the traditional flavors that have been passed down through generations, and enjoy eating while walking around Japan's largest Chinatown. You can feel the splendor of Yokohama not only with your eyes but also with your tongue. We will mainly visit filming locations, but if there are any places or gourmet foods you would like to visit, we will listen to them and create the best tour for you.
