Located in the eastern part of "Matsushima", one of the three most scenic spots in Japan, Ishinomaki City, Higashi Matsushima City, and Onagawa Town (Ishinomaki Area) are fertile cultivated land connected to the Sendai Plain and the world's three major fishing grounds "Kinkayama Offshore" in front of you. Since ancient times, it has developed as a city where agriculture and fisheries are thriving. In addition, the Sanriku Expressway, which is directly connected to the Sendai Tobu Road, has improved industrial and distribution bases, and is revitalizing foreign trade from Ishinomaki Port, which is an important port. The Ishinomaki area, which was unprecedentedly damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred on March 11, 2011, has overcome difficulties with the help of the bonds and power of people around the world, and is now reviving. However, the livelihood of the region and the bustle of the city are still in the process of reconstruction, and due to the impact of the earthquake and the declining birthrate and aging population, the population is in a severe phase of decline. In order to realize regional revitalization (good to live, good to visit, good to work) in this area, in addition to controlling the outflow of population to the outside of the region, create "local work" and use the tourism field as an entrance. I think it is important to work more actively to expand the exchange population. Our corporation aims to form a new tourist area where many people "connect" and "shine" by utilizing the various resources of the region.
What is Ishinomaki Tourism Promotion Organization?
In the "Comprehensive Strategy for Creating Towns, People, and Work" decided by the Cabinet on December 27, 2014, the importance of tourism industry is emphasized as a means of strengthening the competitiveness of regional industries, and regional-based tourism destination management is carried out. Since we promoted the establishment of the Japanese version of DMO as a responsible organization, in Motoichi, in the "Ishimaki City Town / People / Work Creation Comprehensive Strategy" formulated in December 2015, it will lead to an increase in the exchange population and the tourism industry.
