You can experience the traditional wooden bout "Sandanbo," which has three sails and go with the wind, feeling the nature like wind, voice of birds, and sound of water patting the bottom of the boat. In 2004, the Kumano River basin was registered as a World Heritage Site as the world's only "river pilgrimage route" (a component of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes on the Kii Peninsula") People in the past rode on boats between Kumano Hongu Shrine and Kumano Hayamata Shrine for pilgrimage, that consist of the "Kumano Three Mountains." Kumano Kodo has been highly regarded as the very sacred pilgrimage road for centuries in Japan.
