- 5~6 hours
~A half-day experience of experiencing history and culture as you stroll through the castle town of Kitsuki in a kimono~ Kitsuki, Oita Prefecture, is known as Japan's only "sandwich-shaped" castle town. Samurai residences stand on the hilltops, and the townscape where merchants once lived in the valleys is still carefully preserved. On this tour, you'll enjoy a leisurely stroll through the historic castle town of Kitsuki in a kimono. Professional kimono dressers will carefully dress you in your kimono at Warakuan, a traditional Japanese clothing experience facility beloved by locals. Even first-time kimono wearers can participate with confidence. After donning your kimono, you'll experience the townscape reminiscent of the Edo period as you stroll along cobblestone slopes and quiet alleys. Your guide will be a local resident with a deep understanding of Kitsuki's history and culture. Speaking both Japanese and English, you'll receive a thorough and easy-to-understand explanation of the town's historical background, architecture, and samurai culture. This tour is also recommended for international visitors. The tour also includes a traditional tea ceremony experience at Tomaya, a long-established tea shop. Experience a tranquil moment in a serene setting, immersed in Japanese hospitality and the spirit of tea. If desired, you can also visit Nakano Sake Brewery, a long-established sake brewery in operation for six generations. You'll tour the brewery, home to Chiebijin (Wisdom Beauty), a sake highly acclaimed both domestically and internationally, and experience the profound depths of Japanese sake culture. Access: From Beppu to Kitsuki, you can take the JR train. After arriving at Kitsuki Station, you can take a taxi to Warakuan, the kimono dressing venue. Alternatively, a direct taxi from Beppu costs approximately 8,000 to 10,000 yen one way. For groups of four or more, we recommend taking a taxi. Experience history, culture, kimono, tea ceremony, and sake all in one place, and enjoy a special time in Kitsuki.
