"Studio Seikan" is a facility with a workshop, shop and cafe, where you can visit the manufacturing site of Yamanaka lacquerware, experience woodturning, shop, and enjoy cafe and sweets with lacquerware. This course includes a workshop tour (with explanation) - making a vase - lacquerware experience at the cafe (one drink included). Lacquerware craftsmen work here every day. In this experience, you can observe them up close and learn about lacquerware production. The staff will explain it in an easy-to-understand way. Next, you will make your own original lacquered chopsticks at the place where the craftsmen actually work. Think about the design of the chopsticks and paint them with real lacquer. You can experience authentic lacquer painting. The lacquer craftsmen will teach you carefully, so you can make them yourself until they are completed. You will surely be satisfied. It's fun. After that, you can enjoy drinks made with lacquerware at the cafe and taste sweets. Please relax and enjoy the lacquerware experience. Experience making a bathtub by Mr. Kimpei Sugimoto, a wooden bucket craftsman who wants people to understand the quality of wooden buckets and the importance of handiwork. With Mr. Sugimoto's explanations and guidance, you can make your own bathtub with a diameter of about 20cm and a height of about 10cm.

Ms. Fumiko Iku is a woodturner who manufactures products. In this program, you can experience making wooden bowls at Mr. Iku's workshop "Hoori", which is located in a rural village. Trees grow thick over decades, and even after being felled, they take a long time to dry before being brought into the workshop by chance. Mr. Iku's work as a woodturner is one in which he stoically faces the products of time. In this program, we invite you to learn about the roots of the tree, feel the warmth of the tree itself, and feel the wonder of handiwork, and try making your own wooden vessel.
