In commemoration of this volcanic activity, a new volcano with an elevation of 398 meters was designated a Special Natural Monument in 1957 and named "Showa Shinzan". It is a "new mountain" that is still growing, and white smoke can be seen constantly spewing from the reddish-brown mountains. ▼ At the bear ranch near the entrance to the Showa Shinzan cable car, about 100 purebred Hokkaido brown bears are kept.
