Showa Shinzan Bear Ranch: On December 28, 1943, a large earthquake occurred near Mt. Usu on the shores of Lake Toya. As a result, the volcano erupted and the earth rapidly rose to form a tall mountain. Volcanic activity continued until September 10, 1945, and there were 17 relatively active volcanic events in two years. In commemoration of this volcanic activity, a new volcano with an elevation of 398 meters was designated a Special Natural Monument in 1957 and named "Showa Shinzan". Brown bears are the largest wild mammals in Hokkaido. You can feed the brown bears at the bear ranch. When they see food, they stand up and wave at the tourists. They are very cute and adorable.
