It is located near Lake Toya and was formed about 10,000 years ago. White smoke still comes out of the area about 450 meters in diameter, and no grass grows. There is a strong smell of sulfur. Noboribetsu Jigokudani was named for its hell-like atmosphere. ▼Oyunuma is a crater formed by the eruption of Mt. Hiyori.
