Even beginners can experience the "Date Inzai-ryu" archery that has been passed down since the time of Date Masamune! The Date clan, based in Sendai, practiced a traditional archery style called "Hiki-ryu Inzai-ha". This style emphasizes effectiveness on the battlefield over ceremonial beauty. In particular, it employs shooting techniques that utilize mobility, single or group tactics, and powerful shots that can penetrate armor. In this archery experience, you will travel back in time to feudal Japan and train like a Date clan soldier. After hearing about the history and battle tactics of the time, you will be taught how to safely shoot an arrow in a modern martial arts center. This experience will be led by Ken Kurosu, representative of the "Date Inzai Archery Research Association," which also performs at the Sendai Aoba Festival.
