Departing from and arriving at Sapporo Station! We will introduce two recommended spots for bird watching in the winter forest around Lake Utonai. This is a tour for beginner birdwatchers. There is a lunch break along the way. We will start by explaining how to use binoculars, how to look for birds, and how to take good photos while walking around the field. Basically, the path is well-maintained, so small children (5 years old and up) can participate. This tour is recommended for those who want to start bird watching or who want to observe birds at different spots once in a while. This guided tour can be given in English.

As the name of the place suggests, Tsurui Village is the best place to see cranes. You can see cranes in a variety of places, such as cranes landing on pure white snow fields, cranes flying in blue skies, and cranes in the river. Kushiro has many sunny days in the winter, so you can take better photos. In the evening, you can also see the cranes, dyed in the setting sun, flying in formation to their roosts. You can see many red-crowned cranes in eastern Hokkaido around Kushiro, and here you can see the red-crowned cranes vs. food thieves, which you can't see at other feeding sites. Due to bird flu measures, you can no longer see Steller's sea eagles and white-tailed eagles as much as before, but you can see Ezo deer, swans, white-tailed eagles, etc. trying to steal the food from the red-crowned cranes. When they were feeding the cranes with raw fish, this was the only place in the world where you could see the red-crowned cranes vs. eagles fighting over food. (Only during feeding time) There is an admission fee to the Akan International Crane Center (480 yen for adults). I hope that one day I will be able to see the same scene again. This tour will take you on a drive to search for creatures that represent Shiretoko in winter. The main focus will be on large birds of prey, such as Steller's sea eagles and white-tailed eagles, which are designated as natural monuments and visit Shiretoko in winter. You can use binoculars and telescopes to observe their fearless faces as they stare intently at the sea and rivers, searching for prey, and you may even see them diving into the sea to hunt fish. The excitement of finding a large eagle with a body length of 1m and a wingspan of over 2m will be an unforgettable memory. During this tour, you may also encounter Ezo deer and red foxes. *The number of eagles seen will decrease from mid- to late March. *The tour will mainly be by car, but we will occasionally get off the car to observe. Please wear shoes that can walk on snow (snow boots, ankle-length boots, boots, etc.). *Binoculars are available for free rental (no application required).
