An industrial jacquard loom has 14,200 warp (vertical) threads, with weft (horizontal) threads moving back and forth between them. There is slight unevenness in thickness. The craftsman adjusts them while threading, and operates the loom while keeping an eye on it to ensure that it runs smoothly. Today, there are almost no highly specialized craftsmen even within the production area, which is one of the reasons why Kokura Textile receives requests from world-famous brands. In this production area, where division of labor and outsourced production were once the norm, the original cross jacquard company established its own design department 30 years ago and continues to pursue the possibilities of new textiles. In this spirit, the factory is currently operating state-of-the-art machines that can turn children's drawings and photographs into textiles using design technology and jacquard looms. During the tour through the GEMBA program, students will learn about the process used to create highly accurate textiles that are not prints, and can be mistaken for photographs or works of art.They will also be able to see hand looms, old-style jacquard looms, and cutting-edge jacquard looms and textiles.
