Every winter, the entire gigantic waterfall freezes, creating an icefall approximately 30 meters high and several dozen meters wide. The power cannot be conveyed in photos. This area, which has long attracted ice climbing enthusiasts, is known as the Ice Garden, and is an icy world straight out of a movie. Step into the world of ice at Senninzawa Ice Garden in search of unknown, spectacular views. To go there, head mainly downhill from the lift end of Zao Riser World Ski Resort, aiming for the icefall. The end of the second lift is a frost-covered area with a series of large ice monsters. You can also enjoy viewing frost-covered trees. From the end of the lift, put on your crampons and trek for about an hour to Senninzawa Ice Garden. Rental snowshoes are the latest gear that has just been introduced. When you arrive, have lunch while looking at the icefall. The guide will provide you with hot water, so please bring a warm lunch such as cup noodles. Also, a tent-type portable toilet will be set up during lunch, so you can use the restroom. You can stay hydrated without worrying about going to the toilet. After enjoying the mysterious world of ice, climb back up the steep slope and change into snowshoes. This snowshoeing tour was one of the best things I did in Japan, even as a foreigner. All the guides I was with spoke very good English and were super knowledgeable and fun to talk to. They responded quickly to my queries about transport to Zao Liza World (which can be accessed by bus from Yamagata if well timed), and details about the experience. The equipment is high quality and very fun to learn to use. The scenery and waterfall is very impressive. Overall, value for money and fun is fantastic and I would absolutely recommend this to anyone travelling in Japan.

A hands-on activity that involves canoeing around Lake Shirakawa surrounded by magnificent nature. (From 6/3) Plenty of time on the lake with a total 2-hour experience tour! Enjoy the beautiful scenery of Yamagata from the lake, which changes with the seasons! We will give a lecture on how to row, so even beginners who have no experience at all and families can enjoy the experience safely. Pets (dogs) are also welcome!

Matsugaoka is a historic place where samurai from the Shonai Domain cultivated land and planted mulberry trees and established the silk industry about 150 years ago during the Meiji Restoration. Five tastefully decorated silkworm houses are illuminated for the first time! This "place associated with samurai silk" is recognized as a Japan Heritage site in 2017. The winery "Pino Collina Matsukaoka" will open in 2020 in Matsukaoka. Fresh Japanese wine made from 100% grapes grown in Matsugaoka has won numerous awards including IWC, and has been selected for the G7 Hiroshima Summit. A special performance by Nakamura Hashigo, a kabuki actor from Tsuruoka, will be held in the illuminated 5th silkworm room of the Matsukeoka Kaikonjo(Matsugaoka Reclamation Site). Please enjoy Pinocholina Matsuoka's wine with the food of Tsuruoka, a UNESCO Gastronomic Creative City. Approximately 150 years ago, 3,000 warriors of the Shonai clan gave up their swords and traded their hoes for cultivation of virgin land, and the Matsugaoka Cultivated Land was born. He also contributed to the development of Japan's silk industry. Five three-story sericulture rooms with Joshu Shimamura-style tiled roofs still exist on the vast site where you can feel the spirit of the samurai. A night tour (Japanese/English) of Matsugaoka at night, where you can learn about the history of the cultivation area with a limited-time night illumination guide, which is usually not open to the public. You can also experience wearing a kimono as an option, and you can take photos inside the atmospheric cultivation area.
