This experience offers a rare opportunity to participate in a private, formal-style Japanese tea gathering conducted in a quiet, traditional tea room. Unlike crowded tea ceremonies, this intimate setting allows guests to fully engage with the host, the space, and the subtle flow of the Way of Tea. Guided by the principle of ichiza konryū—creating one harmonious moment together—the gathering emphasizes mindfulness, seasonal beauty, and respectful interaction. Every element, from the garden purification ritual to the shared bowl of thick tea, is carefully arranged to create a calm, immersive experience that reflects the depth of Japanese tea culture.~Flow of the experience~12:30 Before entering a tearoomIntroduction and greetings, Tsukubai: Meaning and Usage12:35 Enter a tearoomHow to enter a tearoom and bow on a tatami mat12:40 Charcoal ProceduresThe charcoal procedures will be performed after lunch, depending on the season.12:55 LunchYou will be served lunch with a small amount of Japanese sake and enjoy joyful conversation with the host and other guests.13:45 Thick tea and Thin tea demonstrationThick tea is considered more formal and is often the highlight of the tea gathering.14:45 Q & A and Wrap-up
This is just a great thank you to Ruriko-sensei and her student Yuki-san who just made my whole day unforgettable. I always look for experiences that are somehow authentic and not just a tourist attraction. This tea workshop was exactly what I wished for and even much better. I felt so welcome and in this private lesson I learned a lot not only about Japanese tea culture as such but also about many local artists and craftsmen who play an important part in the whole tea experience. I believe this was the best tea I have ever tasted and the food and sweets were also delicious! どうもありがとうございました!
