This is a tea mat weaving experience at the Genta Dyeing and Weaving Studio. Just choose your favorite color of thread and weave! From small children to the elderly, even first-time weavers are welcome♪ Foreigners can also enjoy weaving with hand gestures and go home. We have received comments that it is "pretty good" as a mouse pad. Since it is an indoor activity, you don't have to worry about the weather. You can experience it in the quaint workshop inside the castle of Aya International Craft. Staff who have been weaving for nearly 50 years will teach you carefully. ~ Flow of the day ~ ① Choose thread Choose your favorite color from the prepared thread. ② Staff explanation Staff will explain how to weave while demonstrating. ③ Weaving experience Feel free to weave. A special experience to learn the traditional techniques of Oshima Tsumugi at the historic factory of "Megumi Kinu Orimono", a tsumugi workshop that has been in operation for three generations on Amami Oshima. You can observe and experience the representative techniques of "Kasuri mat mesh breaking" and "Surikomi", and in the Japanese-style room, you can carefully observe the differences in kasuri and weaving using a magnifying glass. You can take a peek into the deep world of Oshima Tsumugi. After the experience, you will receive an original strap. ~Schedule of the day~13:00 Learn the entire process of making Oshima Tsumugi Based on photographic materials, the production process of Oshima Tsumugi is carefully explained, from thread making to weaving. Even beginners can easily understand the whole picture. 13:20 Experience the mechanism and technique of kasuri mats While looking at the blueprint, you will learn about the structure of kasuri mats and the "me-breaking" technique, and experience "surikomi" coloring. It is a valuable time to experience the actual process. 13:40 Observe the rolls of fabric and choose a strap Learn about the types of Oshima Tsumugi rolls and observe the kasuri patterns with a magnifying glass. Here, you can experience making your own original T-shirt using the "Amami Bingata" stencils, which are based on the plants and scenery of Amami. It's a special time to hand-dye your own one-of-a-kind shirt while feeling the nature and culture of the island. It's perfect as a memento of your trip or as a souvenir. ~Schedule for the day~10:00 Choose a T-shirt and decide on a designChoose a T-shirt in your preferred size and color, and decide on a design using the Amami Bingata stencils.
