Held from spring to autumn Fishing for Japanese eels in the brackish waters of rivers Part 1: 8:00-10:30 Part 2: 10:30-13:00 Part 3: 13:30-16:00 Part 4: 16:00-18:30 This is a tour to fish for eels at the mouths of rivers that run through Tokyo. Japanese eels are born in the western waters of the Mariana Islands. They grow in rivers not only in Japan but also in East Asia, including China, Taiwan, and the Korean Peninsula, and are known to return to the Mariana Islands to spawn. Japanese eels (Anguilla japonica), which belong to the Anguilla genus of the eel family, are widely distributed in East Asia, including Japan, China, Taiwan, and Korea. In Japan, they mainly live south of Honshu, but there have been cases of them being caught in Hokkaido. Rental tackle, fishing rod, and equipment are included, so you can participate empty-handed. Two patterns of fishing will be done: casting fishing and plastic bottle tackle fishing, using earthworms as bait. While waiting for the tackle, you can fish for goby at your feet. The main target is eels, but sometimes you can also catch goby, crabs, and seigo. The tour lasts about 3 hours. Please bring a headlamp, a handy light, and drinks. *If you want to take the fish home, please bring an aeration device (battery-powered bubbler) to prevent oxygen deficiency, a plastic case or fishing bucket to prevent escape, and a cooler box. By train: 15 minutes walk from JR Joban Line or Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line By car: Please use a nearby parking lot Meeting place: Near the Seven-Eleven Katsushika Kosuge 1-chome store. We will send you a map in advance, so please walk to the point. Migration of Japanese eels Japanese eels spawn in the summer in the waters west of the Mariana Islands in the Pacific Ocean. After hatching, they become willow-leaf-shaped larvae called leptocephalus. Glass eels are carried by ocean currents and reach East Asia in about six months, then transform into long, cylindrical glass eels and ride the high tide into rivers. After that, their transparent bodies start to take on color, and they are called yellow eels. During the yellow eel stage, eels grow large, and eat a variety of foods, including shrimp, crabs, small fish, and insects. The environment in which Japanese eels spend their growth period is wide, from coastal areas to the upper reaches of rivers, and includes not only freshwater areas but also brackish water and seawater. After several years to a dozen years, when they grow to a size of about 40 cm or more for males and about 50 cm or more for females, they begin to mature and are called silver eels. Silver eels leave their familiar rivers and coastal areas and travel to spawning grounds from autumn to winter. They reach the spawning grounds in the Marianas in about six months, spawn, and then end their life. PS: The minimum number of participants is 5 or more.

Would you like to make your own original washi notebook? Japanese binding is a traditional Japanese bookbinding technique that uses high-quality Japanese paper and linen thread, and has been passed down since the Heian period (794). In the workshop, we will start with ``Japanese paper dyeing'', which involves adding color to Japanese paper to create the cover of a notebook. ①Make the cover of your notebook by coloring Japanese paper. You can either fold the washi paper and dye it in color, or use a paper pattern to dye it. ② Applying the Japanese binding technique, assemble the inside of the notebook (*) and the cover of the notebook with embroidery thread. The size of the notebook is A6 (105 x 148.5 mm). Your one and only Japanese-bound notebook will be completed. At the end, we will serve Japanese sweets along with "Japanese paper tea" that is not available anywhere else! We hope that you will enjoy the beauty and depth of Japanese paper through this workshop. Sharp tools will be used in the workshop. *The contents of the Japanese paper notebook use existing inkjet Japanese paper. The cover is handmade Japanese paper from our shop.

[Limited tour at a national cultural property that is not open to the public] Enjoy a special tour at the former Brewing Research Institute First Factory (Red Brick Sake Brewery), a national cultural property that is normally closed to the public, and enjoy sake manufacturing. Learn about the history of modernization. [Special tour of the Red Brick Sake Brewery] You can tour the Red Brick Sake Brewery and feel the depth of its history. Among them is the ``Hyakunen Sake Brewery Project,'' a project that aims to age sake for decades. The Red Brick Sake Brewery in Oji, Tokyo, was built in 1904 as part of the newly established Sake Brewing Research Institute, a facility where cutting-edge technology was used to support the modernization and evolution of sake production. It is the only place in Japan where technical development and training related to sake production have been held for 120 years, and it is considered the ``sacred place for sake brewing'' because people who aspire to become sake brewers learned here. After that, the research institute was moved outside of Tokyo, but the symbolic red brick sake brewery remained and was designated as a national cultural property in 2014. Since it is not normally open to the public, it remains a hidden gem of Tokyo. [Limited to this tour! Tasting of specially made new sake with commentary from the toji] (*) A toji is a person in charge of sake brewing at a sake brewery. A person with the qualifications of Touji and Kikisakeshi (Japanese sake sommelier) will introduce you to the best sake. Afterwards, we will host a sake tasting workshop where you will learn about the different types of sake and the stories behind their production. All of this takes place in the atmospheric old koji room inside the Red Brick Sake Brewery. [Introducing sake that can only be sampled here] You can also enjoy tasting Tokyo Port Brewing, which you won't find anywhere else. [Enjoy a wonderful pairing dinner with Japanese sake that focuses on fermented foods] This is a special menu that was newly developed by the chef for this tour and can only be enjoyed on this tour. The elegant restaurant serves special dinners based on Japanese fermented foods, paired with a variety of sake. [Plan contents] *Please select at the time of reservation. ① Tour + Sake tasting only (no dinner) ② Tour + Sake tasting + Sake pairing dinner All

Unlike the calligraphy sets you can buy at shopping malls or schools, we use calligraphy tools procured from traditional calligraphy shops, so it's perfect for those who want to get a taste of the real thing and Japanese culture. This plan is available in Japanese, English, Spanish, and Italian. Most calligraphy experiences take 60 to 90 minutes, but the JanDara calligraphy experience takes 180 minutes. If you are not comfortable sitting up straight, you can stretch your legs and participate in a relaxed state. For those who would like to experience the numbness of their legs while sitting seiza like an authentic Japanese person, we will prepare them so that they can experience it sitting seiza. When deciding which characters to write on colored paper, teach them the Japanese meaning. Creating Japanese names together will be a lot of fun! At the end of the experience, you will eat Japanese sweets. You can take the completed work home with you. Not only that, you can scan your work and hand it over as data, so you can post it on SNS, make a record, make an announcement, or create materials. Unlike the calligraphy sets you can buy at shopping malls or schools, we use calligraphy tools procured from traditional calligraphy shops, so it's perfect for those who want to get a taste of the real thing and Japanese culture. This plan will be conducted in Japanese. This is for international students to improve their Japanese and to have more communication with their host families and companions who understand Japanese. (You can bring up to 4 companions with each application for free.) Most calligraphy experiences usually take 60 to 90 minutes, but the JanDara calligraphy experience takes 120 minutes. You can enjoy the experience and communicate with Japanese people, not just "written with a brush". We will rent Ota Sangyo Plaza PiO, which is about 10 minutes from Haneda Airport, Shinagawa, and Yokohama, and a 3-minute walk from the station.
