Would you like to experience Fukugi dyeing, a unique Okinawan technique? As the name suggests, plant dyeing is done by extracting dyes from "grass leaves, flowers, and trees" to dye fabric. The colors are more colorful than you would imagine from the name "plants." Fukugi is used as a windbreak in Okinawa, and can dye fabric a "bright yellow." It is also famous as a tree from which the yellow dye for bingata is harvested. Leaves are harvested and boiled over a bonfire for dyeing. Savor the time it takes for the color to be extracted.
