Hanging flowers are widely distributed throughout the Nansei Islands, but on Iriomote Island, they are very rare because they grow in colonies along the river. At dawn in the middle of the night, we float our kayaks on the quietly flowing river and row along the river while listening to the voices of the waking ruddy kingfisher and other birds.
