[18:00]▼End point: Lawson Oriental Hotel Fukuoka (in front of Hakata Station Chikushi Exit)A trip around the mystical Kumamoto and TakachihoDeepen the charms of Kumamoto and Takachiho, and start a journey full of mysticism and natural wonders. First, head to Kamiishi-Kimi Kumano-za, famous for its pilgrimage route decorated with nearly 100 lanterns, as if you were lost in a dream world. Along the way, you will find Kuroto-iwa, a giant wind tunnel protruding from Onihachi, a symbol of faith that overcomes difficulties. The shrine's sacred tree, Nagi, is also an ideal place to make a wish, as it symbolizes matchmaking and business prosperity. Next, head to Amanoiwato Shrine and experience the mystical charm of Japanese mythology. Amanoiwato Shrine is an ancient sacred place that enshrines Amaterasu Omikami. The Tenyasu River in the shrine grounds was originally a popular place to make wishes by piling up stones, signifying the fulfillment of wishes and the arrival of good fortune. Not only can you make a sacred pilgrimage for worshippers, but you can also experience a traditional blessing ceremony. Afterwards, you will explore Takachiho Gorge, a beautiful valley formed by an ancient volcanic eruption. The cliffs towering on both sides of the valley and the Manai Falls, which give a sense of majestic nature. On the approximately 1 km promenade, you can leisurely stroll through unique scenery such as the "Kihachi Power Stone" and three arch bridges from different eras (Shinbashi Bridge, Showa Bridge, and Shinto Takachiho Bridge). In particular, the 70 m high Sennin no Byobu Rock has a beauty like a natural folding screen. Each attraction has its own history and natural scenery, allowing you to feel the depth of Japanese culture and the splendor of natural scenery. Whether it is a mysterious legend or fascinating natural beauty, this itinerary will bring you an unparalleled travel experience. This is a mixed tour and participants come from all over the world.

[Conveniently located calligraphy class in the heart of Kumamoto City] Suiko Calligraphy Class is located in Kamitori Street, near Kumamoto Castle. Experience traditional calligraphy in a tatami-floored Japanese-style room, just like a local. I'll translate your favorite characters into Japanese and create a sample for you, so you can write it on colored paper and take it home as a souvenir. Calligraphy equipment is available for free rental, so you don't need to bring your own.I'm a calligraphy instructor with over 30 years of experience, teaching children and adults alike. I speak basic English, but I use a translator as needed, so it's not a problem if you don't speak Japanese.Up to six people can participate at a time, so larger groups will have multiple lessons. If you have any questions, please send me a message.
This was a fun experience in a friendly atmosphere where I got to create my own calligraphy souvenir. What looks deceptively simple actually is more complicated than you'd think, and it's good to have some time for practicing. There was a little bit of a language barrier so the teaching part was somewhat rudimentary and I mostly just tried things out, but I still had a lot of fun and produced my one-of-a-kind calligraphy! I showed it to a few native speakers and they could read it, so I will now proudly hang it on the wall - success! :-)

Unlike crowded tea ceremonies, this intimate setting allows guests to fully engage with the host, the space, and the subtle flow of the Way of Tea. Guided by the principle of ichiza konryū—creating one harmonious moment together—the gathering emphasizes mindfulness, seasonal beauty, and respectful interaction. This is just a great thank you to Ruriko-sensei and her student Yuki-san who just made my whole day unforgettable. I always look for experiences that are somehow authentic and not just a tourist attraction. This tea workshop was exactly what I wished for and even much better. I felt so welcome and in this private lesson I learned a lot not only about Japanese tea culture as such but also about many local artists and craftsmen who play an important part in the whole tea experience. I believe this was the best tea I have ever tasted and the food and sweets were also delicious! どうもありがとうございました!
