There are few local foods that are as popular as this one, and ``oneri in the morning, barley rice in the afternoon, and pumpkin hotou in the evening'' seems to have been the standard for daily life in Koshu farming villages for a long time. In 2007, it was selected by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries as one of the ``Top 100 Local Dishes of Rural Areas,'' which has been passed down to rural areas throughout Japan and is widely supported by the people. Hoto noodles are different from regular noodles in that they do not need to be left to rest. Therefore, the noodles are made by hand from the powdered state.
