In 1910, the Meiji era theater "Korakukan" was built as a welfare facility for the employees of the Kosaka Mine. The exterior of the building is Western-style, while the inside is purely Japanese. The most distinctive feature of this theater is its blend of Japanese and Western styles, which is rare for a theater. Staff dressed in black costumes will guide you through the Korakukan facility. Enjoy an eye-opening look behind the scenes of a truly living playhouse! Kosaka Town in Akita Prefecture is a town that prospered through mining. The Meiji-era playhouse "Korakukan" was built in 1910 as a welfare facility for Kosaka Mine employees. The exterior of the building is Western-style, while the inside is purely Japanese. It features a rare mix of Japanese and Western styles for a playhouse. You can experience the history and culture of Kosaka Mine by touring the Kosaka Mine Office, built in 1905.
