石垣島の最北端に向かい、車で数十分走ると車1台分程度の幅の道に突入。いよいよナイトサファリのスタートです。車を降りるとそこは静寂に包まれた空間で、暗闇の奥からは動物の気配を感じる、これぞ大自然の夜。そして頭にライトを付けて誰もいないビーチでヤシガニ探し。見つかるかぁーと思っていたら、「あっ！いたっ！」と声が。灯りを照らすと初めて目にするヤシガニが居ました。とても可愛く感動しました。カニもたくさんいましたが、海ヘビが砂浜に上がっているのを見つけたときはビックリしました。ひとしきり楽しんだあと、空を見上げると、満天の星空が広がっていました。空気が澄んでいる石垣島だからこそ見られる、降るような星の数々。感動です。それから手長エビを捕まえに川へ。さすがにすばしっこくて何とか一匹捕まえる事が出来ました。PAO先生は野生児らしく、難なく見つけて捕獲してくれるのですが、とても難しかったです。手長エビも美味しくいただきました。感謝。感動の連続で忘れられない一日になりました。
