Enjoy the refined art of traditional Japanese calligraphy in a tranquil setting. A calligraphy instructor with extensive experience will provide a calligraphy lecture in English. While learning basic calligraphy techniques, you will have the opportunity to freely write Zen proverbs, Japanese idioms, or even your own name. At the end of the experience, you will receive a traditional Japanese fan with your chosen characters or phrases inscribed on it to take home. ~Experience Schedule~ 1. First, learn posture and brush holding. Stand quietly, straighten your back, regulate your breathing, and pick up your brush. This is a preparation time to become one with your tool and your mind. 2. While following the instructor's example, learn the basic movements—stops, flicks, and sweeps—and focus on each and every movement of the brush tip. In the silence, listen carefully to the sound of the brush and paper. 3. Try writing yourself. Put your heart into each stroke, creating your own unique characters. Your feelings will be reflected on the paper through the tip of the brush. 4. Everyone shares their work. Everyone shares their thoughts and impressions as they look at their finished works. This is an experiential calligraphy class for foreign tourists visiting Japan, business travelers, or foreigners living in Japan. Write kanji with a brush while calming your mind in a Japanese-style room in a Japanese-style private house. We have prepared approximately 30 kanji characters that are popular among foreigners, such as love, dream, mother, father, friend, and flower. If you have any requests for kanji that you would like to write, please let us know in advance and we will prepare a model for you! We receive many requests to write their name in kanji, so please let us know in advance the name you would like to write (only one person) and we will prepare a sample! You can use the name of a family member (only one name) instead of your own! In this hands-on class, you will polish the ink you use by yourself. You can see for yourself that the color of the ink gradually becomes darker. In addition, the tools used in calligraphy, such as brushes, paper, inkstones, and ink, are explained in an easy-to-understand manner using panels with photos. The lesson begins and ends with a seated prayer. We will also explain the etiquette of the zarei in an easy-to-understand manner! Start with basic writing techniques such as vertical lines and horizontal lines, practice the selected kanji on paper, and finally write them on the fan. You can take the fan home with you, so it also makes a great souvenir!
