Powerful samurai clans worshipped at Zen temples during the Kamakura period, making it a center for Zen practice. The city's serene temples and gardens embody Zen principles, offering visitors a peaceful and contemplative experience.

On Sunday, August 24, 2025, we will be holding a day trip experience of Sagami Sato Kagura and waterfall training in the quiet mountains of Atsugi. Waterfall training may sound like a tough experience, but we will support you so that even first-timers can take on the challenge with confidence. Training is based on the positive idea that people can start over again and again. Kagura is an ancient Japanese traditional performing art that embodies the wish that people can spend their days in good health. This time, you will watch a lion dance performance and take photos of yourself as a lion dancer. Why not refresh your mind and body through this experience and the stress we feel in our daily lives? *This plan is limited to 20 people. If there are a large number of applications, we will hold a lottery, so participation will be confirmed on August 5, 2025. Winners will be notified by email address on August 5, 2025. ~Experience flow~ 8:00 We will take you to the meeting place at Atsugi Central Park by bus! 8:30 Explanation of sutra chanting We will teach you the mantras chanted during the waterfall training and their meanings. 9:30 Waterfall training at Okama Benzaiten Let's blow away the frustrations in your mind that arise from everyday life! 11:00 Relax and warm up your body and mind with a hot spring bath at Motoyu Tamagawakan. 12:00 Lunch at Motoyu Tamagawakan Enjoy meals that incorporate seasonal and local ingredients. 13:00 Experience dressing up and taking photos of the lion dance of the Sagami Sato Kagura Kakizawa Shachu Dress up in the gorgeous costume of the historic Sagami Sato Kagura Kakizawa Shachu and take photos! Kamakura is a popular tourist destination for Japanese and foreign visitors. It is a place where many Japanese traditions have been preserved along with nature. And it was a birthplace of the Kamakura shogunate known as the samurai regime. We are carrying out a SAMURAI Project to offer a Japanese cultural experience at the Kigen-in temple, usually not open to the public, located in the vicinity of JR Kita-Kamakura Station. [Flow of Experience] 1 Handout of materials and explanation about events 2 Drawing of zen art with a brush 3 Guidance by Head of Monk of Kigen-in upon zazen 4 First zazen experience 5 Second zazen experience 6 Lecture by Head of Monk of Kigen-in upon zen philosophy with use of explanatory pictures 7 Third zazen experience 8 Another drawing of zen art on Sekishu Banshi (traditional handmade paper, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage) 9 Commentary on zen art and sharing of impression of experience 10 Event end * Please be noted that the order of the event may vary depending upon circumstance on the day of event.
