Circumference 50 kilometers. Maximum depth: 180.0 meters. Average depth is 117.0 meters. Water storage capacity: 8.19 cubic kilometers. The lake surface is 84 meters above sea level. It is the northernmost ice-free lake in Japan. ▼Toya Lake Cero Observatory is a great place to take panoramic photos of Lake Toya. Showa Shinzan Bear Ranch: On December 28, 1943, a large earthquake occurred near Mt. Usu on the shores of Lake Toya. As a result, the volcano erupted and the earth rapidly rose to form a tall mountain. Volcanic activity continued until September 10, 1945, and there were 17 relatively active volcanic events in two years. In commemoration of this volcanic activity, a new volcano with an elevation of 398 meters was designated a Special Natural Monument in 1957 and named "Showa Shinzan". It is a "new mountain" that is still growing, and white smoke can be seen constantly spewing from the reddish-brown mountains. ▼ At the bear ranch near the entrance to the Showa Shinzan cable car, about 100 purebred Hokkaido brown bears are kept. Brown bears are the largest wild mammals in Hokkaido. You can feed the brown bears at the bear ranch. When they see food, they stand up and wave at the tourists. They are very cute and adorable. It is said that the horse oil here is very useful. Adults (junior high school students and above) 900 yen, children (6 years old and above) 500 yen, please pay the fee yourself. Even during busy periods such as summer vacation and autumn holidays, you can experience the tranquility of Shiretoko here. This course passes through old development sites and forests to see the groundwater waterfalls that flow into the Sea of Okhotsk. On clear days, you can see the 200m high cliffs that stretch all the way to Cape Shiretoko. Like "Furepe Falls," this is a course to see cliff waterfalls, but this one is a bit wilder, with no walking trails and requiring climbing over logs. If it becomes dangerous due to a storm or other reasons, we will contact you by mobile phone and, if you wish, we will cancel (free of charge) or introduce you to an available tour the next day or later (same price).

We ask for your understanding in advance.
We are a group of 5 pax and we had a great walk with Kanako san as our guide. We saw bear claws mark on the tree, bear paws print, deer skull and things we would have miss if we were to walk on our own. A deer suddenly ran towards us and stayed with us during our walk and Kanako San told us it not a good sign as the deer might have been spooked by a bear. It was a beautiful and exciting walk for us. Highly recommend Kanako san for your guided walk.

The weather was not the greatest but our driver (yumi) was fantastic. She took us to all the sites we requested. She told us so much along the way, by using her Japanese/English translation device. She was extremely helpful with suggestions and guidance. She also provided pictures of what we 'would' have seen, since it was very overcast and foggy on our day. She took many pictures for us as well. We almost decided not to go because of the weather but we are VERY GLAD that we did!
