Widely recognized as an important asset of Gifu, surrounded by magnificent nature, including the Japanese Alps, Takayama is not only a great tourist destination in itself, but also a great base for sightseeing in the Japanese Alps and the surrounding Hida region. The Mimachi Group of Buildings Preservation District, the heart of Takayama city, attracts tourists from all over Japan. You can spend a whole day strolling through the old streets, buying souvenirs from the many craft shops, tasting local teas, and enjoying local specialties such as wagyu beef sushi. There are also many sake breweries in and around the Mimachi district. You can also sample sake at the breweries. 2. Miyagawa Morning Market Takayama's morning market is one of the three largest morning markets in Japan. It is held in front of the Miyagawa River and Takayama Jinya. The Miyagawa Morning Market stretches about 350 meters from Kajibashi Bridge to Yayoibashi Bridge on the Miyagawa River that runs through the center of town, and features more than 60 stalls. On the riverbank near the street, stalls selling vegetables, fruits, pickles, spices, etc. are lined up, while on the other side of the street, there are shops selling mainly snacks, desserts, and handicrafts. In addition to handicrafts such as baby monkeys, Ittobori carvings, and Japanese accessories such as chopsticks, food and drinks made by villagers such as pudding, taiyaki, dumplings, Hida beef skewers, and coffee are also sold. (Opening hours: 7:00-12:00) 3. Located at the foot of the sacred mountain Hakusan, Shirakawa-go is one of the must-visit tourist destinations in Gifu. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this beautiful traditional village is the definition of picture-postcard beauty. Shirakawa-go Ogimachi Gassho-zukuri Village is the village with the largest number of Gassho-zukuri houses remaining. The name Gassho-zukuri literally means "like praying hands". Gassho Village will take you back to pre-modern Japan. Climb the Shirakawa-go observation deck to look out over the village and enjoy the views of a time gone by. Shirakawa-go is worth a repeat visit as it shows different faces with each passing season. From the magnificent cherry blossom season to the lush green summer, from the fiery autumn leaves to the quiet white winter, Shirakawa-go always has a spectacular charm. This is a mixed tour and participants come from all over the world.
