[Conveniently located calligraphy class in the heart of Kumamoto City] Suiko Calligraphy Class is located in Kamitori Street, near Kumamoto Castle. Experience traditional calligraphy in a tatami-floored Japanese-style room, just like a local. I'll translate your favorite characters into Japanese and create a sample for you, so you can write it on colored paper and take it home as a souvenir. Calligraphy equipment is available for free rental, so you don't need to bring your own.I'm a calligraphy instructor with over 30 years of experience, teaching children and adults alike. I speak basic English, but I use a translator as needed, so it's not a problem if you don't speak Japanese.Up to six people can participate at a time, so larger groups will have multiple lessons.If you have any questions, please send me a message.

This was a fun experience in a friendly atmosphere where I got to create my own calligraphy souvenir. What looks deceptively simple actually is more complicated than you'd think, and it's good to have some time for practicing. There was a little bit of a language barrier so the teaching part was somewhat rudimentary and I mostly just tried things out, but I still had a lot of fun and produced my one-of-a-kind calligraphy! I showed it to a few native speakers and they could read it, so I will now proudly hang it on the wall - success! :-)
