This two-day, one-night program will help you attain spiritual enrichment and a healthy body through a mind-body experience at Jionji Temple, Tohoku's leading prayer temple. Hayama, once home to three temples and 48 monks, was once counted among the Dewa Sanzan mountains. Jionji Temple, a nationally designated historic site boasting a history of approximately 1,300 years, is a leading prayer temple in Tohoku. This two-day program will help you attain spiritual enrichment and a healthy body through a mind-body experience. The spiritual cultural experience will include a dialogue with the temple's chief priest, a viewing of the Jionji Bugaku dance, a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property, and a trek through Hayama, a former Shugendo sect. The meals served during the program will be a modern version of healthy vegetarian cuisine based on traditional Jionji temple recipes.
