Tennen Rishin-ryu swordsmanship, which began in the Edo period, is still passed down today, and at the Tennen Rishin-ryu Hino Dojo, students of the school hone their swordsmanship skills. Swordsmen who trained in Tennen Rishin-ryu in Hino formed the Shinsengumi, known as the strongest group of swordsmen at the end of the Edo period, and were called the Last Samurai.
