Eastern Hokkaido is a national park that straddles the Kushiro District, and is home to the Kushiro Wetlands, the largest wetland in Japan and a Ramsar Convention site. Experience premium glamping on the ice at Lake Toro, the largest lake in the wetlands. After dusk at Lake Toro, which was completely frozen in the dead of winter, we sat around a minimalist bonfire to stay warm while enjoying a premium cheese fondue made with all the ingredients unique to eastern Hokkaido and Shibecha Town.
