Let's enjoy a special time at Daisho-in which is considered to be the oldest temple in Miyajima of Aki. In this lesson you will paint Japanese folk toy "Maneki-neko" made of papier-mache and color a picture of "Momijitani Park 4 Seasons". Papier-mache toys are made of paper pulp or shreds of paper molded into various shapes and colored. They became widely popular during the Edo period. "Maneki-neko" is a figurine of a cat beckoning with an upright paw, which is often believed to bring good luck and loved to this day. White papier-mache maneki-neko will be given and you can paint it to your liking. Let's make your original maneki-neko, only one in the world. After finishing your maneki-neko painting, we will start coloring of a picture of Momijitani Park, a famous spot of Miyajima. These handmade picture and a maneki-neko can be taken home as a memorabilia. The lesson is held in the sitting room of the temple - a hall with the most beautiful scenic view. The venue is a long-established flower shop with a history of 70 years, which is located in a busy district of Hiroshima lined with many department stores. Currently the venue offers 46 culture classes in ikebana and tea ceremony. There is a huge flower shop downstairs of the classroom, so our lesson starts from selecting flowers and you may choose colors and types of flowers with an instructor. The venue is easy to access, so you can experience Japanese culture during your tour in Hiroshima if time permits between your sightseeing programs. Our school is very convenient to take an ikebana lesson in your preferred time, as we have many instructors and each instructor conducts several classes everyday from morning to the evening except Sundays. Enjoy ikebana as well as its porcelain vase, a unique art available only in Japan.
