Kamakura is a popular tourist destination for Japanese and foreign visitors. It is a place where many Japanese traditions have been preserved along with nature. And it was a birthplace of the Kamakura shogunate known as the samurai regime. In this program, you can visit the blacksmith workshop that is operated in Kamakura by direct descendant of legendary sword master Masamune. Also you can appreciate and actually hold a Japanese sword which is, at present, regarded as a fine masterpiece of Art. This program is conducted with Japanese only. Foreign language explanation is an optional service.

Experience the beauty and history of traditional Japanese paper that is over a thousand years old! A workshop where you can experience Japanese paper making. Starting with an explanation of washi making, you can experience how traditional washi is made from wood. In the workshop, we will make postcards with two different designs, Falling Water Paper, and A5 size paper. While the washi is drying, we will offer Japanese sweets along with a unique "washi tea". Japanese binding is a traditional Japanese bookbinding technique that uses high-quality Japanese paper and linen thread, and has been passed down since the Heian period (794). I had a great time doing this sashiko workshop. Keiko was very kind and explained how to do things very well. It may be more difficult if you don't have any prior experience with hand sewing but it is still doable with some patience and concentration. We did not finish the project but were given instructions on how to finish the piece. You learn all the skills you will need in the time allotted. The shop was easy to find using the instructions given on the canoha website.
