To this day, the company has dedicated itself to the creation of Nishijin-ori obi (sashes). At the workshop, you'll learn about the history of Nishijin-ori and the techniques of its artisans while touching the actual weaving tools used. You'll also get a close-up tour of the jacquard loom, where you'll experience the craftsmanship and power of the loom. During the hand weaving experience, you'll weave a table center approximately 20cm x 30cm on a special hand loom. The texture changes depending on the strength of the weave and the tension of the weft thread, creating a fascinating experience that will leave you lost in time. Try your hand at making an authentic parquet keychain by cutting and gluing parquet blocks that make use of the natural wood color! Wood comes in a variety of colors, from brown, red, yellow, and even purple. The parquet block bars that form the basis of parquet work are made in advance by instructor Matsuura. You cut them with a craftsman's saw and combine them to make hearts, leaves, and any other shape you like. Once firmly glued together, polish them with sandpaper and finish with oil to complete the piece.
