Japanese binding is a traditional Japanese bookbinding technique that uses high-quality Japanese paper and linen thread, and has been passed down since the Heian period (794). In the workshop, we will start with ``Japanese paper dyeing'', which involves adding color to Japanese paper to create the cover of a notebook. ①Make the cover of your notebook by coloring Japanese paper. Using the traditional craft "Ise Katagami", which has been passed down in Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture for over 1000 years, the cloth is stencil-dyed. "Ise Katagami" is made by a craftsman called a stencil carver who carves intricate patterns and designs on durable Japanese paper with a carving knife.
