Take a tour with your guide through the quaint street lined with Japanese old houses! Masuda Town has prospered as a merchant town since the Edo period. Because this town has been the transportation hub, a variety of agricultural products gathered here. Merchants amassed wealth in their fields and created mansion towns. Inside these mansions, "Kura'' or a storehouse was built by wealthy merchants to store documents and household furniture. This storehouse is still inhabited and rare even in Japan. Feel the elegance in the detailed decorations such as white plaster, polished black plaster and lacquered interior. The townscape is home to many historic buildings of this area. Masuda town was designated as a National Preservation Districts for Groups of Traditional Buildings in 2013. Find the storehouses of each mansion with its structure unique and decoration. In this guided tour, you will be able to visit two to three mansions with storehouse while receiving an explanation.

Korakukan, a playhouse built in the Meiji era, is still in operation for more than 100 years and still holds regular performances (popular plays, etc.). In the first half of 2024, there will be a boy's review show of "Jun Kanzaki & 10carats" from late April to early June, and "Gekidan Yumeiro" from mid-June to late July, a theater troupe formed just for the Korakukan performance. It's interesting how it's different every year. The second half, from August 3rd to October 27th, is a popular theater performance by Shitamachi Kabuki-gumi. Performances will be performed in rotation for approximately one month each: Chairman Hiroshi Hitomi (Hagata Subaru Toma) → Hanagata Kaito Shingetsu → Chairman Tooru Mitsumine (Hagata Shigeki Takahashi). It is designed to be enjoyed by people of all ages, so we have many visitors, including students from elementary school to high school on school trips. Please enjoy watching a play at Korakukan, a playhouse that is still in operation after a century. Kosaka Town in Akita Prefecture is a town that prospered due to the Kosaka Mine. The Meiji era playhouse ``Korakukan'' was built in 1910 as a welfare facility for Kosaka Mine employees. The most distinctive feature is the combination of Japanese and Western styles, which is rare among playhouses. A staff member wearing a Kuroko costume will guide you through the tour of Korakukan's facilities. Enjoy an eye-opening behind-the-scenes look at a living playhouse!
