Blessed with raw materials for pottery clay and glaze, this plan allows you to experience full-scale pottery in Tajimi, a historic pottery town. In addition to abundant materials, the dojo for hands-on experience is equipped with pottery equipment such as electric potter's wheel. We do not decide which works to make, and we will give careful guidance to each customer, both beginners and veterans, so that they can freely make what they like.

Spend a full day creating a kozuka — a small decorative utility blade that was once concealed in the scabbard of a Japanese sword. The material used is the same as that used in real Japanese swords & tamahagane, the highest-grade steel in the world. During the experience, you will make a clay base (tsuchi-dai), inscribe a blade crest (yasurime), attach the blade, carve your name onto it, craft a kozuka case, and sharpen the blade to complete the piece. Our studio is the only place where you can experience both making a kozuka and sharpening it yourself. You will learn the Japanese sword-making process through hands-on work. Striking and shaping iron, and seeing the wave-like patterns emerge, is something you cannot fully understand until you try it yourself — making this a truly valuable learning experience. The experience is tailored to each participant’s ability, so minors and women are also welcome — there’s no need to worry. You are welcome to take photos and videos during the process! The fee covers the experience for one kozuka. Two or more people can work together to make one, but please let us know in advance when booking. If you wish to make more than one, please note that it will take approximately one extra hour per additional piece. Please allow plenty of time before the expected end time. Japanese swords are works of art made of iron. By listening to the explanation of the production process of this work of art that has been handed down since ancient times, you will be able to understand the highlights of swords and the points to appreciate them. You can also observe the forging process (the process of stretching, bending, and gluing steel), which is one of the processes of making Japanese swords. Please take a photo of the sparks. The moment when the sparks fly is only for a moment. It may be difficult to show the process again, so please do not miss it. We recommend the video. In addition, you can experience using a large hammer to strike the iron. We will also accept questions such as why Japanese swords become such hard and strong blades, and why the price differs!
