This was an awesome experience! We had someone, who was fluent in English (important for some people), explaining every step as we went, while checking on us and giving us help as needed. It is the KyoWorkshop area, so there were other groups of people doing other crafts. We made our own chop sticks while other groups were dying fabric (that looked cool, as well!). A surprise to us at the end is we got to dye a carry bag for our chopsticks!

The staff were very friendly and helpful, even with a language barrier. Saga was English speaking and guided us through the whole chopstick making process. Excellent activity for a tourist.

Very nice and cute experience where you learn about the different arts and you get a valuable souvenir home. The staff were very kind and friendly.
We made our own chopsticks and Masato-san was very thorough and patient with his teachings.
Very fun and unique experience! Easy process to get there and check in. Got seated right away. Made our own chopsticks with our personal creativity and it was a blast!
The course was meaningful, the instructor was very skilled and a good communicator, and we actually campe out with beautiful chopsticks in a personalized bag. Super fun!
My wife, myself and my two sons wanted something different to do while in Kyoto and though this would be an enjoyable and unique experience. Everyone really liked being able to use their hands to make their own chopsticks and to appreciate the work that must go into making really nice sets.
The instruction was very helpful and the teachers spoke English. It was a small group -- just the 4 of us and 3 others -- so we felt like we had plenty of attention and assistance. No complaints for this low-key experience (indoors, so good for bad-weather days!)

母と伺いましたが、楽しく体験でき、旅の思い出になりました。
おばあちゃんと娘と3人で参加しました。
最初は消極的だったおばあちゃんも、優しいお店の雰囲気に徐々にやる気になり、いい色合いにTシャツを仕上げ、いい思い出ができたと満足そうでした。
娘は、ランチョンマットを帰宅後早速使っています。
私は、大きい柄に挑戦したら、時間が足りないくらいでした。気軽に伝統の技法に触れられ大変満足です。
大きな柄に挑戦したい方は、集中して目一杯やらせてもらえるので、充分な時間を確保して参加するのがいいかと思います。
代表の先生が接客に大変配慮されていて、外国出身のスタッフの方々も皆さん優しかったです。
初めての友禅染め体験でした。
染めたいものと、染めたい絵柄の型紙が、たくさんの選択肢の中から選べるので、自由度が高いです。
染料の色は8種類くらいで、重ね塗りして濃くしたり、あえて掠れたままにしたり、別の色を重ねたりすることで豊かな風合いになります。
色見本や出来上がった作品がたくさん展示されているので、参考にしながら作業できました。やり方はスタッフの方が丁寧に教えてくださいました。
親子連れのお子さんも、外国人のグループの方々も、皆さん夢中になって作業に没頭していました。
たいていのものは染め作業が終わったらそのまま持ち帰れるようですが、私はがま口を選んだので、後日縫い付けと口金をつけてから郵送してくださるとのことでした。
とても楽しい体験をありがとうございました。また機会があれば体験したいです。
