Neriko is a black pill-shaped incense that was widely used during the Heian period. In The Tale of Genji, there is a scene in which Hikaru Genji, Murasaki no Ue, and other characters are actually created and evaluated, and it is still known as one of the Six Kinds of Kaorumono. It is also used in front of the charcoal in winter during tea ceremonies. Nerika is not something to be used at room temperature, but rather to be warmed to enjoy its aroma.
