Plan description

It is an experience of making pottery using a potter's wheel that is kicked and turned with a foot. The texture of the wood is gentle, and the simplicity of using no electricity or machinery is appealing, and some craftsmen of Yachimun, a traditional craft of Okinawa, who stick to the old-fashioned process, sometimes use a kick-rokuro.・After learning how to kick the potter's wheel, you can experience full-fledged pottery making using craftsmen's tools.・If it is difficult to use a kick potter's wheel, you can also experience using an electric potter's wheel.・Up to one work per person will be fired and handed over to the customer. (Maximum 3 months wait) [Notes] ① Please come in clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. Mud sticks to your clothes. ② Kick the potter's wheel barefoot. If you have sandals or towels that you don't mind getting dirty, please bring them with you.

[About the hands-on workshop, Ichimushido]

Using red clay from Okinawa, I make handmade bowls one by one with a kick potter's wheel. Based on the design of "Ryukyu Kotenyaki", Okinawan pottery from Taisho to early Showa period, the creatures living in Okinawa are drawn using the scraping technique.

[Experience venue, Kijokasho School (former Kijoka Elementary School)]

Utilizing the site of the former Kijoka Elementary School, which was closed six years ago, it is a complex facility that houses Yanbaru crafts shop Yamabara Kogeiten, tenants such as Ichimushido, a hammock workshop, and a woodwork workshop. Events such as screenings and fairs are also held. Accommodation is scheduled to open in the fall.
