This is a tour where you can experience the Japanese way of life at the Kumagai Family Residence, a nationally important cultural property, located in the townscape of the World Heritage Site Iwami Ginzan.On this tour, you will experience making wildgrass tea with a local English-speaking guide from Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine at the Kumagai Family Residence, a mansion built in the 1800s for an influential merchant family. This tea is made from local wildgrass and has been drunk since ancient times with everyday meals. It is a culture that still continues in the region as "the tea of the common people".
Iwami Ginzan flourished as Japan's largest silver mine from the late Sengoku period to the early Edo period. The town of Omori was developed as the administrative and commercial center of Iwami Ginzan. Here you will find cute cafes, sweets shops, miscellaneous goods stores, and more.
The Kumagai Family Residence is a traditional Japanese house built over 220 years ago. This house is not just a tourism spot; The lifestyle of the past echoes to this day, passed down through experiences such as changing the fittings and furniture in the house to make it more comfortable during the harsh summers and winters, and learning how to actually make food using the stove in the house. Come back each season and experience the beauty and fun of Japanese architecture.
Wildgrass tea was a popular drink among the common people. Households brewed from nearby grasses.Wildgrass tea brewing continues today as a local culture.On this tour, you will brew tea using five types of wildgrass and traditional Japanese tools, "Shichirin" and " houroku''.

Making wildgrass tea Experience making wildgrass tea in the kitchen of the Kumagai Family Residence. Roast 5 types of wildgrass in order. After roasting the five types of wildgrass, the process ends.

・7 minutes by car from Sanin Expressway Nima/Iwami Ginzan IC・30 minutes by car from Oda city center・To get to the parking lot in the Iwami Ginzan (Omori) area, please use the Iwami Ginzan World Heritage Center and then take the route bus.
・From JR Izumo-shi Station to JR Oda-shi Station, it takes about 25 minutes by limited express train, or about 40 minutes by local train.After getting off at JR Oda-shi Station, take the Iwami Kotsu bus to the bus stop “Omori Daikansho Ato”.
・The Kumagai Family Residence is a 5-minute walk from Daikansho-mae Hiroba and the nearest bus stop, Omori Daikansho Ato.From Iwami Ginzan Park (nearest bus stop: Omori), it is 800 meters away and takes 25 minutes on foot.
