In the Yoshino River basin, when the seasons change, the ``Hachigo Fog'' phenomenon occurs depending on the surrounding topography, weather, and river water temperature. The ``Hachigo Fog'' phenomenon refers to the fog (sea of clouds) that creeps up the mountain surface from rivers during periods of rapid temperature change. The mountain peaks dotted in the sea of pure white mist that stretches along the Yoshino River, and the mist that appears along the river is a landscape unique to the topography of the Yoshino River basin. The best time to see them is around 7am in the morning from April/October to December. If you prepare before dawn and wait at the viewing spot, you will be able to see the fantastic mist moving in the light of the sunrise.
A local taxi driver who is familiar with the area will take you to the viewing spot. The best viewing spot changes depending on the weather that day, so being able to leave the decision of the location up to the driver is also a big plus. Also, since the observatory requires a narrow and steep mountain road, you can safely get to the observatory by using a local taxi that is familiar with the roads.
Whether or not a sea of clouds appears depends on the season, so there are times when it is easy to see it and times when it is difficult to see it.
