Yamagata/Zao Senninzawa Icefall & Rime Trekking

The Ice Garden is an ice art that only appears during the extremely cold winter season in Senninzawa, Bodaira Kogen, Kaminoyama City, in the Zao Mountain Range. This is an experience that can only be enjoyed here, along with another natural art form, frost-covered trees. Descending the mountain is easy with an exhilarating buggy cruise down the slopes on a large sled pulled by a buggy. The special lunch is Yukinko curry, which is making its first appearance this season. Enjoy snow trekking to your heart's content in the Zao Bodaira Highlands in winter, where you can experience nature with all five senses. Limited special plan available only 4 times this season! ●Date: February 1st (Thursday), 3rd (Saturday), 15th (Thursday), 17th (Saturday), 2024 ●Itinerary: Meet at Zao Riser World Restaurant Ticket Office at 9:00am Meet with guide and prepare for departure ↓ 9:30 Get on the lift (lift transfer 15 minutes) The scenery changes from hoarfrost to rime ice ↓ 10:00 Get off the lift, put on equipment and start trekking (1 hour) There are places where you will go down a steep slope ↓ 11:00 Ice Garden (icefall viewing and 30 minutes break) Admire the icefall that can only be seen here this time of year. We offer fragrant Kuromoji tea using the fragrant tree "Kuromoji". 11:30 Start of trekking (1 hour) There is a place where you have to go up a steep slope ↓ 12:30 Rime field (Viewing rime ice) An impressive rime field that spreads all over. The snow monster is right in front of you. Ride a snow buggy and enjoy a refreshing descent down the mountain (30 minutes) with skiers by your side. There are magnificent views of the Asahi Mountain Range in the distance. ↓13:00 Zao Riser World Restaurant ("Yukinko Curry" rice is the edge of the Okama pot, white curry is the surface of the Okama lake in winter, and mozzarella cheese balls are a spicy special lunch inspired by the child of the frost tree (Yukinko?) 45 minutes with a hot vegetable drink bar) Break up after the meal (optional plan) If you need a shuttle from JR Kaminoyama Onsen Station or any Kaminoyama Onsen inn to Zao Riser World, a round-trip taxi costs 13,200 yen (tax included). We will arrange it. Departs from Kaminoyama Onsen Tourist Information Center or each inn at Kaminoyama Onsen at 8:15 (40 minutes one way by taxi) and arrives at 14:30.

In response to feedback that it would be quite tiring to walk back down the mountain after walking two hours round trip to the icefall, we prepared a large sled pulled by a snow buggy. Go down the slope exhilaratingly while watching skiers from the side. The panoramic view of the Asahi Mountain Range is breathtaking.
