Walk through the primeval forest with Snowshoes and watch the cliffs that reach Cape Shiretoko. You can see waterfalls and huge icicles flowing in the Sea of Okhotsk, and drift ice in some periods. You can mainly observe sika deer and wild birds. You may also see natural monuments such as eagle, woodpecker and momonga.
Snowshoes (Western Kanjiki) are compatible with shoes from approximately 14 cm to 28 cm. Unlike mountain climbing, you don't walk on steep slopes, so it's perfect for beginners. If there is no snow due to abnormal weather, we will walk without using snowshoes.
It is a rich forest where you are almost guaranteed to see sika deer and small birds, and it is easy to see foxes and woodpeckers. If you're lucky, Steller's sea eagles and white-tailed eagles, which are designated as natural monuments, may soar above you, hunting in the sea of drift ice. The nocturnal Ezo flying squirrel is also in its breeding season from February to March, so it can sometimes be seen during the day.
This is the only trekking course where you can see Cape Shiretoko. There are no roads or mountain trails to Cape Shiretoko, a special protection area. It is a place where you can experience the dynamism of the earth, where the drift ice that travels south of the Sea of Okhotsk creates the cliffs of the Shiretoko Peninsula.

Plan attractions
Herd of sika deer You can almost certainly meet sika deer. It depends on your luck how many you can see and how many you can meet.
You may meet animals in nature Various birds and animals live here.
Drift ice season Drift ice visits the Sea of Okhotsk from late January to March. If the wind blows from the sea, the drift ice will come to the shore.
Flying squirrel Although it is nocturnal, it is often active during the daytime around March.
Cliff to Cape Shiretoko If it is fine, you can see the cliff that leads to Cape Shiretoko.

About 10 minutes from Utoro Onsen About 2 hours via Route 334 from "Memanbetsu Airport"
10 minutes from Utoro by bus (check the operating period and conditions) or taxi. About 1 hour by bus from JR Kushiro Main Line "Shiretoko Shari Station". Rental cars are also available in Shari and Utoro.
Rental cars are available at the airport, Abashiri Station, Shari and Utoro. Memanbetsu Airport-Utoro Onsen Airport Liner operates for a limited time. The night coach Eagle Liner from Sapporo goes straight to Utoro Onsen.
