We would like to introduce you to a tandem skydiving flight plan that can be experienced at Apple Port Yoichi in Yoichi-gun, Hokkaido, about an hour and a half drive from Sapporo. A tandem flight is a course where you fly with a professional pilot, or you can say you're two people with an instructor.
The Shiretoko Peninsula is a peninsula that juts out north-northeast from the northeastern tip of Hokkaido, jutting out into the southern end of the Sea of Okhotsk. It is located between Shari Town, Shari District, and Rausu Town, Menashi District, Hokkaido, and in the center of the peninsula are beautiful mountains such as the Shiretoko Mountain Range, including the highest peak, Mt. Rausu, the Shiretoko Mountain Range, and Mt. Iou. It is also famous as an area where many rare plants and animals live, and where wild animals such as brown bears, red foxes, and white-tailed eagles live in high density.
So, including my personal notes, let's start by taking a quick look at the basics: what is Lake Shikotsu? Lake Shikotsu is a freshwater lake in Chitose, Hokkaido, and is the northernmost ice-free lake in Japan. As I mentioned before, Shikotsu-Toya National Park, which can be accessed by car in about 30 minutes from New Chitose Airport or about an hour from Sapporo, is one of the most popular tourist spots in southern Hokkaido, attracting not only Hokkaido residents but also tourists from all over the country who come to experience the natural beauty of the area as a famous outdoor spot.
The plan that caught my eye this time was an afternoon canoeing experience tour guided by "Kushiro Marsh & River," a shop that holds nature tours and eco-tours around the Kushiro Marsh! The shop is located near Kushiro-Shitsugen Station on the Senmo Main Line, which is also the meeting point for the tour, so it's easy to access and easy to find. ◎ The attraction of this plan is that the tour starts in the evening and you can enjoy a canoe cruise around the "course that best lets you experience the Kushiro Marsh," from Hosooka Canoe Port to Iwaboki Water Gate.
Summer is just around the corner! That's why in the first half of this month, we introduced river activity spots in the Kanto area. You may have noticed that even in tourist spots close to the city center, many river boating and rafting experiences are held. However, Kanto is not the only place where you can enjoy full-scale rafting. So this time, we will leave the Kanto region and explain rafting tours that you can enjoy in other areas.
Well, the first summer season since the new era name Reiwa began in 2019 is just around the corner♪ Summer is the season for enjoying nature such as the sea, rivers, lakes, and mountains, and for outdoor activities that refresh and cool down both body and mind! Many people are planning to use their summer vacation and Obon holidays to enjoy these leisure activities at popular travel spots all over the country◎ On this page, we will announce the latest popularity ranking based on the number of reservations for activity experience tour plans for the 2019 summer season (July 1st to September 30th, 2019), classified into four categories: "Prefecture," "Detailed area," "Activity type," and "Experience tour plan."↑ Demand is expected to exceed last year's in the 2019 season, so we recommend making reservations for popular activities early☆
The gourmet food that caught my eye was squid. Apparently it is a popular Hakodate specialty, and a "live squid fishing pond" has been set up inside the famous Ekini Market in the Hakodate Morning Market, which is popular with tourists. Squid is delicious, isn't it? It's easy to imagine that fresh squid caught in Hokkaido is the best. So I searched for a place where I could actually go squid fishing on a fishing boat instead of at the market, and found the experience tour I'm introducing today.
Hello to everyone reading the Activity Japan BLOG! The other day, I wrote this blog post about going on a trip to my friend's place in Kushiro, Hokkaido this summer, but after doing some research, I found out that Hokkaido is overwhelmingly large and has a lot of interesting outdoor spots! I had been going to Okinawa for many years in the summer, so I was completely ignorant! I had no idea! So, I put aside my schedule to go see my friend in Kushiro and searched for things to see and do in the area around Sapporo, which is a must-see for your first trip to Hokkaido, while surfing the internet. I was really interested in SUP (stand up paddle boarding) at Lake Shikotsu, a lake leisure spot that represents Hokkaido, and I will research and share information about my personal recommended tours. There are many plans that look really fun, so I hope this will be helpful for your Hokkaido sightseeing in the summer of 2019.
Today, I'm going to have fun introducing some outdoor activities that I'm interested in at the moment! To be honest, I've never been to Hokkaido since I was old enough to understand, but as I've grown up, I've become more and more interested in its seafood, tourist spots, and enormous natural scenery, so it's on the list of potential family trip destinations for summer 2019. I have a friend living in Kushiro, so I thought I'd get in touch with him for the first time in a while and go somewhere nearby, so I searched for outdoor leisure activities around Lake Kussharo and the source of the Kushiro River! The scale is so overwhelmingly different...
Mukawa River in Hokkaido is one of the cleanest rivers in Japan. It is the main stream of the Mukawa River system, running north to south for 135 km before emptying into the Pacific Ocean. Mukawa Town, through which the Mukawa River flows, was formed in 2006 by the merger of Hobetsu Town and Mukawa Town. Located in the southern part of the central Hokkaido region, it is surrounded on three sides by the outer edge of the Hidaka Mountains, and faces the Pacific Ocean to the south. It is close to Sapporo City, Chitose City, and Tomakomai City, and is blessed with a diverse natural environment, including the sea, mountains, rivers, and plains. With the summer season just around the corner, we will focus on rafting, an activity that can be enjoyed using meltwater and the rapids of the Mukawa River! Late April to mid-May is the best season for rafting, as the rivers swell with the melting snow! You can enjoy the rapids, which are the best part of rafting. Furthermore, typhoon season and after rain are the best times to go, as the water volume temporarily increases and the current becomes stronger. Here are some recommended experience plans that allow you to experience the rapids and nature that are unique to Hokkaido! If you've seen it on social media or would like to try whitewater rafting, be sure to visit during the 2019 season.

Time flies and April is almost over this year, and we are about to enter Golden Week. In the Kanto region, the season of falling cherry blossoms has passed, and the warmth of the days is becoming more noticeable. However, there is still a time in the Japanese archipelago when cherry blossoms will be in full bloom. That is Hokkaido. Cherry blossom forecasts have been announced just before the 10-day holiday, with Hakodate on April 26th and Sapporo on April 28th. The northern lands, which are dyed pink with cherry blossoms during Golden Week, seem to be more popular than ever. In Hokkaido, the recommended place to visit from April to May is Furano City. When you hear Furano, many people probably think of the TV drama "From the North Country." There must be many people who have dreamed of living a quiet life in an environment rich in nature. Furano, where you can enjoy beautiful scenery that is comparable to the world of the drama, has a precious scene that can only be seen from the end of April to the end of May. This is because the cherry blossoms and lavender fields are in full bloom at the same time. There are many Instagram-worthy flower lands and lavender gardens, and the scenery is a combination of majestic rural landscapes and beautiful flower fields. Hidden observation decks and ropeways that allow you to see both at the same time are also popular, making it a tourist spot where you will never run out of photo opportunities. Here, we will introduce a carefully selected plan for the river activity "rafting" that will allow you to become one with the nature of Furano and enjoy sightseeing to the fullest!
Hokkaido is a prime example of a spring and summer leisure hot spot, ranking third in both the prefecture category of the "2019 Golden Week Popularity Ranking" and "2019 Summer Vacation Popularity Ranking" announced by Activity Japan. Many people are planning to travel to Hokkaido to enjoy outdoor activities, including the spectacular scenic spots created by the overwhelming natural scenery. On this page, we divide the vast Hokkaido into four areas, Central Hokkaido, Southern Hokkaido, Eastern Hokkaido, and Northern Hokkaido, and announce the rankings of "Popular Activity Types" and "Popular Experience Plans" based on all reservation data. Hokkaido, the land of the north, has different characteristics in each region, and each has its own unique culture and nature. Enjoy a trip to enjoy its charms with outdoor activities and sightseeing leisure.
Spring has finally arrived, and cherry blossom season is reaching its climax all over Japan. However, in some areas, the cherry blossom season is still a long way off. In Hokkaido, where the cherry blossoms bloom the latest, they are expected to bloom in May, so the cherry blossom front will finally arrive during Golden Week. Therefore, it seems that tourists from eastern Japan, where the best time to see cherry blossoms has ended, gather from late April to mid-May. Hokkaido, with its famous cherry blossom spots and hidden gems, as well as delicious gourmet food and hot springs, is the perfect Golden Week travel destination! In particular, Kushiro, which has many tourist spots where you can feel the majestic nature, such as the Kushiro Marsh and the natural monument "Tancho", is recommended. There are also many attractive spots in Kushiro city. You can see a very beautiful view from "Nusamai Bridge" on Kita-Odori, and you can enjoy fresh seafood in the port town of Suehirocho. There are also many accommodations with natural hot springs, making it perfect for a healing trip. Kushiro is home to the famous "Kushiro River" that is famous both inside and outside the prefecture. Did you know that there is a river activity on the Kushiro River where you can experience nature while going down the river? Today, we will introduce you to a canoe tour on the Kushiro River where you can enjoy nature to the fullest!
Lake Shikotsu is a freshwater lake located in Chitose City, Hokkaido. It is a caldera lake with the second largest water storage capacity in Japan after Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture. Warm water remains deep in the lake, and it is said to be the northernmost ice-free lake in Japan, where the temperature of the surface water does not drop easily. When exposed to sunlight, it has a distinctive pale blue color called "Lake Shikotsu Blue". In addition, the water quality survey by the Ministry of the Environment has been the best in Japan for 11 consecutive years, and various plants and animals live there. Lake Shikotsu is located in Shikotsu-Toya National Park, about an hour's drive from Sapporo City, and is popular as a tourist and leisure spot where you can enjoy the great outdoors and hot springs while being close to the city. There are camping facilities and visitor centers in the surrounding area, and events and festivals are held, attracting many tourists and locals. Here, we will focus on activities to enjoy the great natural field of Lake Shikotsu with the spring and summer season of 2019 just around the corner! We will introduce three recommended experience plans for cruising in a canoe or kayak. If you've seen it on social media or would like to try canoeing, be sure to visit during the summer of 2019.

Hello to everyone who is viewing Activity Japan. I'm a total shut-in, so I don't leave the house. But I want to go on a trip somewhere... I was really jealous when I heard that my friend went to Hokkaido, but just imagining it being -15 degrees Celsius makes me shiver. But I want to go somewhere. When I think of activities that can be enjoyed in the winter, I think of things that are quite physically hard, like skiing and snowboarding, but I was looking for something that I wanted to do that wasn't like that, and I found out about the experience of taking an aerial walk in a hot air balloon. It's a much easier way to fulfill your "desire to fly in the sky" than skydiving or paragliding. But with a hot air balloon experience, you're just riding, so I guess the physical sensation is more like floating on a vehicle than flying in the sky. I'm curious to know how much of a floating sensation you can experience.
