Hello to everyone who is viewing Activity Japan. This is Shishimaru, whose hunchback has been getting worse due to the cold. I want to be a cat (by Spitz). When it's cold, I want to go somewhere warm, and if that's not possible, I want to stay indoors and eat hot pot. But Shishimaru in 2019 is a little different from the past. I'm researching whether there is an activity that I can enjoy in a colder place in the cold winter, with the idea of eating hot ramen in the hot summer. I was looking for something other than skiing or snowboarding because my knees hurt, and I discovered "ice waterfall trekking". The ice waterfall trekking tour is only held for a few weeks in January and February, when the temperature is the lowest in winter, and after that the ice collapses and melts away, so it is a very valuable experience. What is a ice waterfall? It is a state in which a waterfall freezes and turns into an icicle. Trekking on a snowy road for about 3 hours one way to reach the ice waterfall is quite a physical activity, and it seems that my knees will hurt as much as snowboarding. But I'd love to see that amazing view for myself... Is it really true that it's the most popular winter activity?
Last season, I was considering smelt fishing on a dome boat on Lake Yamanaka, but I was unable to experience it halfway through, so this was also a chance for me to get revenge. And what's more, it's something you can only experience in Hokkaido! It's not a dome boat, but "smelt fishing on ice"! I've heard that dome boats are warm, and the larger ones have toilets so you can enjoy fishing in comfort, but when you think of smelt fishing, it's the image that comes to mind from childhood: drilling holes in the frozen lake surface under the cold sky, dropping a fishing line and aiming for your prey. It's something I've never experienced before, so I wanted to give it a try once!
